Quick reminder: You only have one life

– Was discouraged by my family when changing my career to start all over again in the visual design field. – Could not even find an internship due to not being as young as a fresh graduate to be trusted that will have quick learnings at work (in Vietnam) – Was told: “You don’t have a hobby in professional photography, I doubt that you are really interested in art and design” (!?) – Wait, what? Why that “must” be my hobby?) – Was told: “You don’t know much compared to other younger candidates, we cannot pay you because we have to …

Do what makes you sparkle: take vitamins for your soul

An article about how I traced back my passions Got lost Remember when my first blog post on Medium, UI/ UX Designer — A trendy career is coming to an end? became trendy that every day I got more than a hundred views, there were many questions about how I found my passion, and many people were saying that they were looking forward to reading my article about that.  I was so focused on my work that I hadn’t really had time to write about that as I promised. Today just suddenly I remember since these days I started to apply …

Life recently 01: Unbalanced life

Pen & paper = my spirit, my comfort zone, my calm soul

The world is growing by technology and hundreds of note and journaling apps have been born. However, for me, pen and paper are still things that makes me spark a lot. I tried using digital notebooks and planners, but I still feel best with paper notebooks and pens. I tried digital painting but I still feel most peaceful when I sketch even the ugliest lines on papers. I tried to use Kindle to be more convenient to carry many books at once around but I felt the most focused, meaningful, and peaceful when I am holding a paper book. I …

Work-Life Balance

On 3rd November, I posted a blog named “A Slow Life” which mentioned that I started to slowly go back to my balanced life (no hustle with many assignments, no stress with job-seeking and interviews). However, I think it has been not really “slow” because I worked full-time and wrote my thesis (also full days) during the weekends. Today is Friday but it is a public holiday in Finland continuously with weekend and Easter holiday. So totally I have 4 days off from work. Usually, I would think “Oh yeah have many days to concentrate on my thesis (or to …

“Dolce far Niente” – The sweetness of doing nothing

Productivity went down It’s been around 2-3 weeks. My productivity has been definitely going down. I guess it was because of being burned out after a long time of working hard plus getting sick. Every day I do nothing but surf on websites and read stuff. I was just telling myself in my mind “Well, another long lazy resting time after a hard running section”. I read my old blog post, Endurance Run, again and I started to remember this is not the first time it has happened to me. Therefore, I tell myself that burning out and requesting the …

A Slower Life

After a year at full-speed-ever in my life with study and job search in Finland, I have been slowly back to my preferred slow life.  Trying to take back my old habits When I was in Vietnam just right before coming to Finland, I had a habit of going to bed around 10 PM and waking up at 5:30 AM to read a book, which was just life my daily ritual before really starting my day with work and other things in the world. After work, I do Yoga at home in the afternoon at least 3 times per week. …

A Full-Focused Year in Finland to Reach The Goal

My gratefulness At the end of this week, I received the news that I passed all the interviews and got the UX Trainee position at a company that I am very excited to join. I am really happy not only because I got the job, but also because the culture and values of the company and the team are very matched to mine. When I received the email from the recruiter, I was so happy that I even could not respond immediately. Within around 30 minutes, I just sat silently and reflected on everything that happened. I spent the whole …

Finland: Human Rights and The Freedom of Prisoners

Another thought from mine about Finnish education. ——— This weekend, I unintentionally had a chance to watch one episode from the docuseries “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons” on Netflix, and that one episode got my attention because it was about one prison in Finland – Kylmäkoski prison (Kylmäkosken vankila). The name of that episode is Finland: The Free Choice Prison. Kylmäkoski prison (Kylmäkosken vankila) I have to say that I am very impressed with the “toughest prison” in Finland. Before the screen really showed the scenes inside the prison, I imagined that it would look like something I saw in Vietnamese, …

Power of Story-Telling in Presentation | My Learning Journey in Finland

I wrote this post both to share about my study in Finland and the importance of story-telling to make a successful convey of our ideas, and also to remind how incredible story-telling can help to spread information to make a positive impact in society and human development. I believe each of us could both benefit from and contribute to something when we have good skills in story-telling and presentation. My further study in Finland: LAB & the course Anticipating Future Trends and Innovation Management At LAB University of Applied Sciences, the school I am pursuing to study deeper in technology …
