Morning Reads

There’s something peaceful about the quiet of the morning before the world wakes up. For me, it’s the perfect time to dive into a good book and start the day with intention. My morning reading ritual has become the calm I look forward to every day.

Morning reading actually had been my habit when I was in Vietnam, but after moving to Finland, I was too focused on studying, looking for a job, and internship work, so I unintentionally dropped that habit away. However, my learning from this is life should be a balanced journey. If we have good habits, keep up with it! Because when losing balance in lifestyle, life could not be sustainable, and sooner or later some issues for health or mental health will arise. Furthermore, practicing a good habit again does require much effort.

Previously, I tried to read again sometimes, but in winter, when the sky was dark here in Finland because the sun rose quite late, I felt less motivated to read. However, with a little bit more consistency in building the habit, now that the habit is finally back to me, I am super happy.

I enjoy reading books in the early morning before working hours very much. When having it in my ritual to start the day, I really feel my day is more complete because after working hours usually my brain will likely start to melt.

In my imagination, every day, after at least 30 minutes of morning reading, I felt like I just dropped a good seed into my brain or fed good vitamins to my mind so that during the day, I grow together with them so it does make me feel more peaceful and calm.

I also started to practice the habit of borrowing books from library. Unlike in Vietnam, here in Finland especially the Helsinki Metropolian area, the library system is very great. I had a Kindle but I more enjoy holding a paper book in my hands so I take this opportunity to read paper books and save budget to spend on buying. In Vietnam, I love to read English books and I usually go buying them. I love to keep good books to re-read but sometimes some book were not so good and it was a bit wasting money. However, now I can borrow books from library to read first and I can decide which book I should buy to keep by my side later. It is wonderful. 🙂

One thing is I am also trying to use my phone less so books really help me to be more conscious about that. Here in Finland, I go out less compared to my lifestyle in Vietnam, so the habit of checking my phone too frequently is really eating me. I would love to change that because, for sure, there is nothing good about that habit. I am really not a fan of screens.

The morning reads are magical to me. Starting the day with a good read sets a positive tone for everything that follows. If you haven’t tried it yet, grab a book tomorrow morning and notice the difference. Sometimes, the simplest habits have the biggest impact.
